APPLICATION PROCESS

The Department of Pathology at the University of Arizona is a participating program in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), eliminating the need for hard copies of applications. Because of the volume of applications received each year, only applications submitted through ERAS will be considered for a residency position in the match. Information on ERAS is available in the Dean's office at your medical school, or on the ERAS web site at www.aamc.org/eras/.  All applications must be received by January 1, 2007.

The following are some criteria used in the evaluation of all candidates for our residency program:

  • Evidence of commitment to pathology as a discipline
  • Strong USMLE Steps 1 and 2 scores (Step 2 is not required for interview)
  • Three letters of recommendation from pathologists and clinicians whom we know or whose judgment we respect
  • High quality of medical school training
  • Clinical practice in the United States is not required.
  • Personal interview

We do not discriminate on the basis of age (years out of medical school), gender, religious preference, or country of origin.

Information for International Medical Graduates

The University of Arizona requires that foreign medical graduates have a valid ECFMG certificate, as well as passing the USMLE. The University sponsors J-1 visas.
